First indigenous petrol engine - KUV100 is expected to be a path breaking car for Mahindra with many firsts. One the most important is mFalcon 1.2 litre three-cylinder petrol engine. It is Mahindra's first petrol engine that is based on SsangYong Tivoli's 1.6 litre engine.
The new mFalcon engine family - Mahindra & Mahindra is known for manufacturing reliable and well performing engines of which the mHawk family of engines is the best example. Mahindra is now bringing its another new family of engines with KUV100. It has been named as mFalcon and is a lightweight engine. According to Mahindra, these all new aluminium petrol and diesel units are manufactured to offer excellent low end torque for the perfect SUV performance and a comfortable drive. Marking their entry into the smaller car segment, the success of these engines will determine how Mahindra fares in the smaller car segment.
KUV for the youngsters - With the buying potentials of youngsters, competition among the first time buyers has been heating up with several new players. Mahindra has come up with its own car for the youngsters, calling it “The Young SUV for The Kool & Trendy”. Though, Verito Vibe had been there in the past, but KUV100 is targeting a completely new consumer section. Trying to cash in on the aspiration factor for the Mahindra SUV among the youth, Mahindra is hoping that this SUV looking hatchback will help to make a breakthrough in the compact car segment.
Mahindra’s re-entry into the Capital - Mahindra has been badly affected due to the recent ban on diesel cars with engines equalling or more than 2000cc in the entire NCR region. So, the KUV100 with 1.2 litre three-cylinder diesel (mFalcon D75) engine will be one of the two Mahindra cars that can be sold there and this will mark the re-entry of Mahindra in the NCR.
After sales service matters - KUV100 can enjoy a solid customer base only if it can compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motors. This is no doubt going to be the toughest challenge since Mahindra has been ruling the SUV segment till date.
