MFC buying guide - Hyundai i20 Active

With the launch of this car, Hyundai aims to increase their market hold and leverage the domestic volumes. This crossover is built based on the present Elite i20 which is the second generation model of the i20 in India. It shares the same platform but comes with additional features. The new car is also in line with the new fluidic design of Hyundai. The revised radiator grille in the front bumper with new fog lights and sweptback projector head lamps have been carried over to the new model from the earlier i20 hatchback. The company has endowed the i20 Active with a body cladding while bringing in a new design for the alloy wheels and roof rails.

The newly designed tail lights have been carried over with the addition of the spare wheel which is mounted on the tail gate of this car. Apart from these upgrades, the 2015 Hyundai i20 Active features a slightly upgraded cabin. The i20 Active's interiors are different from the standard i20 hatchback’s interiors. The cabin of the new model looks funky with colour coded pinstripe and dashboard accents. The upgrades in the car are in the form of two dual shade interior options like tangerine orange and aqua blue combined with black.

Other changes include new and improved upholstery and partly coloured gear knob, while the inside of the crossover is similar to that of the Elite i20. Hyundai has kept the same new instrument panel with gear shift indicators and three spoke steering wheel with integrated audio and Bluetooth controls. The layout is identical, but the company has made the interiors distinct with a sporty touch. Like the feature loaded i20 hatchback, the i20 Active comes packed with many features like height adjustable driver’s seat, cooled glove box, 2-Din audio system with 1 GB internal memory, climate control system, cruise control, a second power outlet, reverse parking assist, clutch lock etc.

Under the hood, Hyundai i20 Active comes with the same engine options, 1.2 litre Kappa petrol and 1.4 litre CRDi diesel engines, which drive the i20 hatchback. While the 1.2 litre petrol engine produces 82bhp of output and 114Nm of torque, the 1.4 litre diesel mill generates 89bhp of output and 220Nm of torque. The former comes coupled with a five speed manual gearbox, while the latter comes connected to a six speed manual gearbox. ABS with EBD has been introduced as standard.
