MFC Buying Guide - Volkswagen Jetta
The Volkswagen Jetta has always been a club class vehicle. It generated a lot of buzz initially when it was brought to the Indian market. It is based on the MQB platform of the company which is also used for the Skoda Octavia. However, the Jetta stands out as one of the most luxurious saloons and the price point is actually pretty competitive for what you get in terms of features. The car comes loaded with equipment and this is something that buyers will love.
When German engineering meets supreme luxury
The Jetta's design is sleek and stylish with a new grille, front bumper and fog lamps. The rear is more sedate, particularly the boot lid and tail lamps. The Jetta has a mature and evolved design much like the Passat. The headlamps merge nicely into the front grille which has three chrome slats. The overall appearance is pretty elegant on the road. The bi-Xenon headlamps add greater appeal to the car’s front fascia along with daytime running lights. The top end Highline variant is the only grade to get 15 day-time running LEDs arranged in an L formation. The interiors feel plush enough and there is a twin tube instrument cluster and top notch infotainment system. There is a flat bottom steering wheel and a dual tone beige and black theme. There is every safety and luxury feature that you would want in this segment.
The engines include a 1.4 litre petrol mill which makes 121 BHP and 200 Nm while there is a 2.0 litre diesel engine which makes 138 BHP. The Jetta drives accurately and cornering is a breeze. The steering sometimes lacks responsiveness but the driving experience is fun overall. The engine has adequate power when it comes to highway driving and never feels short charged.

The Jetta drives smoothly and the suspension setup takes care of all bumps. Ride quality is top notch and you are never short of comfort. There are 6 speed manual and 7 speed DSG gearbox options. The latter is the better option with paddle shifters. This is only available for the top end diesel model and the petrol variant does not get this at all. The Comfortline and Highline grades are available for both petrol and diesel models through Trendline is the base model for the diesel.

There are six airbags along with ABS and a driver fatigue monitoring system which warns drivers through messages on the instrument cluster. The Jetta makes for a very competent and luxurious sedan to buy in this higher end segment. It comes with all the equipment, safety, luxury, comfort and power that you need. This is definitely a vehicle to pamper yourself with though there is stiff competition from the likes of the Toyota Corolla, Skoda Octavia and Hyundai Elantra.
