Mahindra e2o – This car which was shown as a concept model at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo had finally made its way to the Indian car market back in 2013. Built at its plant in Bengaluru, Mahindra had launched the e2o back in the year 2013 which is the first all electric vehicle in India. The e2o is powered by a 48V maintenance free Lithium-ion battery, which produces about 25 bhp output and 53Nm of torque. It is not too quick a car and offers a top speed of only 81 kmph. Though the full charging takes about 5 hours, Mahindra also has QuickCharge that helps to charge the car in just about an hour. Once charged to full, this car can cover a distance of 120 km, which is ample for city travel. Inside, the e2o comes with a large touch screen interface, and a monochrome digital speed information display.

Toyota Prius – India’s car market was first introduced to hybrid cars when Toyota released their Prius back in 2012. This car can run on both petrol and electricity, so the buyers get the best of both worlds. Driving the Toyota Prius is a 1.8 litre 2ZR-FXE, 4 cylinder, inline, twin-cam petrol engine that delivers 97bhp output and 142 Nm of peak torque. It also gets a sealed Ni-MH (Nickel-Metal Hydride) battery which increases the total power output to 134 bhp. The Prius comes in 3 modes namely, EV (Electric Vehicle), Eco, and Power. Toyota Camry Hybrid - Toyota has another green car - the Camry hybrid. Just like the standard Camry, this one has Toyota's DOHC VVT-i 2.5-litre petrol engine, but is tweaked to fit in the electric motor. The output tally of the hybrid system stands at 158bhp from the petrol unit and 44bhp from the electric unit. The power split device delivers power to the wheels, and also to the generator that charges the battery. The battery is nickel metal hydride.
